In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Ann Arbor; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–9 pm. It is closed on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. If you don’t mind their unique service (ie, 18% tip charge and Asian-style serving), there are several dishes worth trying.

I absolutely love Asian Legend. If you’re not familiar with Taiwanese food—it is probably the most comforting Asian style food to eat, with sweet and savory flavors that expand your pallet without being overpowering. Asian Legend is an unassuming family owned establishment that prides itself on delicious food, fast service and quality. Don’t mistake their directness for rudeness; the owners are lovely people and want to service you as quickly as possible. As a beverage, you are given hot tea by default. If you want water, all you have to do is ask for it. The best way to eat is family style—ordering two or so dishes per person. For someone just getting started, I’d recommend the following: • Minced Pork Over Rice (Lu Rou Fan) • Seaweed dried tofu (bean curd) • Taiwanese Rice Noodles w/ Minced Pork • Taiwanese Cabbages with Garlic • Onion pancake (Fried Scallion Pancake) • Fried tofu with basil (also known as three cup tofu) • Pepper Salt Chicken [so good, a must try]

Their food is pretty good. I mentioned the way I like Chinese food and the person who took my order recommended a dish that I loved eating. But the addition of 18% gratuity in each bill is a bit weird! I would like the independence of providing the tip I would like. Overall if focusing on just the food the experience was fine. Recommended: Chicken Rice, Chili chicken Chilli.

Recommend minced pork rice and salt pepper chicken. They should be pretty authentic. The stinky tofu was not what I expected. It’s so hard and dry both inside and outside and it doesn’t have much stinky taste. I don’t know why it’s more expensive than the other two items. I like that they provided hot tea Ended up paying 40 dollars for these three dishes incl. tax and service fee.

Responsive waiter and constantly checking on us! They include 18% tip automatically. Fast service: you don’t wait for your dishes. BUT, it is a *very typical Chinese-American restaurant*: very sweet, oily, too much sauces to fit American flavor. I won’t suggest to go there if you are looking for something authentic: better cook by yourself. Don’t order the 葱油饼 green onion pancake: it’s deep fried and not the Chinese way of making it at all. 空心菜is fine.
